Know Thyself
We have all been brought up and educated by Axioms laid down by great thinkers, philosophers and teachers.
However, recognize the ones you have adopted and adapted into your own personality for convenience.
Like Situational Leadership Principles, we all need to know which axioms to shed and which to use at the appropriate periods and circumstances in our lives
In my case, i used to until recently swear by the axiom from the Good Book –
“Of what use is it, to Own the whole world but suffer the loss of your own soul”
for a long time my operational version was “never go against your grain” in anything and everything you do.
It was only 15 yrs back, I realized that what I called “the grain” was actually my comfort zone.
Realization of this fact, made me achieve so much more and recognize the “Imposter” viz. the comfort zone within me.
Coupled, with the above, helped me strengthen and grow my
“Integrity”- seeking and finding the truth for oneself.
Catch yourself hiding or escaping behind such axioms, principles, social etiquette and practices which make you compromise your Integrity. Don’t suffer the loss of your own soul while pleasing the world or conforming to social and peer pressure.
Learn to say NO first to yourself.
Delay Gratification – will share my experiences soon, if interested – Just acknowledge with a “Yes”
Until, then
Know Thyself – the greatest of Truth
